Agents participate in Family Life Center Renovation Project
March 11, 2016

Two agents, Danielle DeSousa and Patty Murphy of Palm Coast and the Beaches Real Estate recently graduated from the Flagler County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Flagler. As a class project, the graduates selected to renovate the Family Life Center back yard.

“We wanted the residents to have a nice place to sit and watch their children play.” said Patty. The project took just over a month and consisted of a bike path, new sod, & a butterfly garden donated by Palm Coast and the Beaches Real Estate.

Broker, Catherine aka “Cat” Evans spoke on the subject of domestic violence “ This is a topic that everyone knows about but no one wants to talk about. Having seen close friends and family members be victims of domestic violence, our team felt we needed to be supportive of this project and hope that the butterfly garden will provide a place of serenity for the women and children. We know that there is so much more these families need and hope to continue to support them in the future.”

Housing Industry Improving

– Auburn Homes Inc. article for Realtors newsletter

The U.S. housing industry signals renewed enthusiasm as reflected in national and local statistics, expressed by analysts at both levels this month. Local builders and Realtors are participating in the upswing. National Association of Realtors chief economist Lawrence Yun said in mid-February that sales activity improved last year compared to 2013 and predicted, “... It’ll take stronger income gains and more housing supply to help meet the pent-up demand for buying.”

In a U.S. Economic Outlook chart for February 2015, housing starts rose from 925,000 in 2013 to 1,004,000 in 2014 and are projected to hit 1,208,000 in 2015 and to climb to 1,385,000 in 2016 . Yun’s 2015 housing-market expectations, cited in an NAR graphic in the Flagler County Association of Realtors’ newsletter, reflect a 7.4 percent increase in existing-home sales and a 37 percent rise in new-home sales. The National Association of Home Builders/First American Leading Markets Index released Feb. 5 revealed the nationwide markets average moved up to 90 percent of normal housing activity in the fourth quarter of 2014. “The markets are improving at a consistent pace, ” said NAHB Chairman Tom Wood, a homebuilder from Missouri. “A growing economy and consumer confidence should help drive the release of pent-up demand in 2015.”

The national homebuilders group’s fourth-quarter 2014 results in the 55+ market showed increases over the previous year, with the single-family index rising six points to 54, the highest fourth-quarter reading since the start of the index in 2008 and the 13th consecutive quarter of year-over-year improvement. Jason DeLorenzo, government affairs director for the Flagler Home Builders Association, cited third-quarter 2014 figures for home starts in the county at 149, a 20 percent increase from the 124 starts in the same quarter in 2013. Updated figures for the fourth quarter showed 145 residential permits issued , a 30.6 percent increase from the 111 residential permits in the same quarter 2013, DeLorenzo said. With an improving economic outlook, Flagler custom-home builder Brad Thomas and his team at Auburn Homes Inc. judged the time was right to launch a new model with an opening scheduled March 9, 2014, at 2 Ponce DeLeon Drive in Palm Coast.

The weather and beaches are also a draw because he is “big into surfing, swimming, paddle boarding, boating, fishing and anything else you can think of to do at the beach.”
